The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commissioned newly built teachers’ quarters at the Biseni Secondary School in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, in a move aimed at improving education and strengthening ties between the military and host communities.

A statement released on its official X handle, said the project commissioned on Saturday, was executed in honour of an indigene of Bayelsa State and former student of the school, Air Vice Marshal E.O.E. Ebiowe.

Representing the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, at the ceremony, the Air Officer Commanding, Mobility Command, Air Vice Marshal M.N. Onyebashi, said the initiative forms part of the NAF’s efforts to build trust and cooperation with communities where it operates.

He stressed that strong civil-military relations remain essential to Nigeria’s national security, adding that the air force would continue to support projects that improve the welfare of host communities.

According to him, the NAF has executed more than 18 similar special intervention projects in communities across the country where senior officers are serving.

Air Vice Marshal Ebiowe described the teachers’ accommodation as an investment in the future of students in Biseni.

He said decent accommodation for teachers could improve staff retention and ultimately contribute to better learning outcomes.

Ebiowe, whose late father served as the pioneer principal of Biseni Secondary School, described the project as a “bridge between past and future generations.”

He added that the initiative symbolised the partnership between the military, government and the community.

The newly commissioned facility consists of a two-bedroom apartment for the school principal and four single-bedroom apartments for teaching staff.

Speaking on behalf of Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Nimibofa Ayawei, commended the NAF for the intervention.

He described the project as an example of how security agencies, government and local communities could work together to drive grassroots development.

Chairman of the Bayelsa State Council of Traditional Rulers and Ibenanawei of Epetiama Kingdom, Bubaraye Dakolo, Agada IV, also praised the NAF for the intervention.

However, the traditional ruler called for greater government investment in Biseni Clan and other communities across the Niger Delta, expressing concern over what he described as the continued neglect of some parts of the region.
