The Delta State College of Nursing Sciences has issued a disciplinary query to a student, Osato Edobor, over a viral social media video recorded during the visit of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to Delta State.
In a letter dated March 27, 2025, and signed by the institution’s provost, Evbodaghe Rita Ogonne, Edobor was accused of engaging in a “malicious act” by recording herself singing and posting an “unofficial response” to a song during the First Lady’s arrival at the Dome Event Centre in Asaba.
The letter cited the school’s Student Handbook, referencing a “punishable offence” under the standardised disciplinary action for certain violations. Edobor has been directed to submit a written explanation in triplicate within 24 hours to justify why disciplinary action should not be taken against her.
The controversy stems from a widely circulated video showing nursing students at the event rejecting the First Lady’s designation as “everyone’s mother.

”When the event’s Master of Ceremony introduced Tinubu with the customary title, the students responded in unison, “Na your mama be this,” meaning “This is your mother,” signaling their refusal to accept the term.
The video has sparked widespread reactions, with many interpreting it as a reflection of growing dissatisfaction over economic hardship, inflation, and insecurity under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The event was part of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Health Programme, during which 10,000 professional kits were distributed to midwives in the South-South geopolitical zone.
During the programme, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori praised the First Lady’s efforts, emphasizing the improvements in the health sector under the RHI initiative and commending her dedication to enhancing the lives of Nigerians.
Senator Tinubu also met with traditional rulers at the Traditional Rulers’ Council Chambers, including the Orodje of Okpe, retired Major General Felix Mujak Peruo.
