The Federal Government may be moving closer to settling outstanding N-Power stipends as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs formally requested the urgent release of funds for beneficiaries following the approval of the 2024/2025 capital budget implementation.

In a memo addressed to the Minister of Finance, the Minister called for swift action to ensure that thousands of N-Power participants across Nigeria receive their delayed payments without further setbacks. The communication, sent earlier this week, is understood to be part of high-level efforts to clear funding obstacles that have stalled disbursements under the youth empowerment programme.

Officials within the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction confirmed that the correspondence forms part of broader consultations with the Federal Ministry of Finance and other key agencies responsible for budget releases and cash management.

A senior ministry source disclosed that the intervention was designed to accelerate the payment process and restore confidence among beneficiaries who have raised concerns over prolonged delays.

“The Minister has taken steps to ensure that pending stipends are released as soon as possible,” the source said. “Engagements are ongoing, and there is cautious optimism that beneficiaries will begin to see progress.”

The N-Power scheme, one of the Federal Government’s flagship social intervention programmes, was created to provide employment opportunities and skills development for young Nigerians. However, recent payment delays have drawn criticism from participants and civil society groups, many of whom depend on the monthly stipends for basic needs.
While no official timeline has been announced for the release of the funds, the latest development suggests a renewed push within government circles to stabilise the programme and address lingering financial constraints.

Observers note that the approval of the 2024/2025 capital budget implementation has created an opening for the resolution of outstanding liabilities tied to federal intervention schemes, including N-Power. Further announcements are expected as discussions between the relevant ministries continue.
