A mother, Ronke Olarinoye and her daughter, Florence, representing Lagos State have both won medals in the weightlifting competition at the 2024 National Sports Festival taking place in Ogun State.
Ronke secured the gold medal in the women’s 45kg division by successfully lifting 65kg and also claimed the bronze medal for her total lift of 140kg, finishing as the runner-up in her category.
These athletes are connected to the renowned multiple African Champion and Commonwealth Games Champion, Adijat Olarinoye.
Adijat is not participating in the current National Sports Festival.

A sports commentator, Adeniyi, remarked that Ronke and Florence have demonstrated that the word impossibility holds no value.
He encouraged sports officials to provide assistance to families like theirs, who invest significant effort for their state and nation.
“I wish to congratulate Madam Ronke and her daughter for etching their names in history.
“At the 2023 National Youth Games in Delta State, I witnessed Florence achieve three gold medals and pondered the source of her inspiration,” Adeniyi revealed.
