Nigeria’s U-17 women’s team, the Flamingos, produced a dominant display on Saturday, with a comprehensive 5-0 victory over Guinea in the first leg of their second-round qualifier for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The encounter, played at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan on Saturday, saw the Nigerian girls overwhelm their opponents from the opening seconds, with captain Harmony Chidi delivering a sensational performance.
The Flamingos wasted no time in taking control of the match as Chidi scored with the first kick of the game, giving the Nigerian side an early lead and setting the tone for a one-sided contest.
The prolific forward doubled the advantage in the 13th minute with a brilliant long-range strike, leaving Guinea struggling to cope with Nigeria’s attacking pressure.

Nigeria continued to dominate possession and create chances, and their persistence paid off again in the 37th minute when forward Oluwakemi Adegbuyi found the back of the net to make it 3-0.
Just three minutes later, Chidi completed her hat-trick with another composed finish, rounding off an outstanding first-half display for the Flamingos.
The Nigerian side maintained the same intensity after the restart, and their superiority was rewarded once more in the 56th minute when Mary Dunstan added the fifth goal to complete an emphatic win.
The commanding result gives the Flamingos a strong advantage ahead of the return leg scheduled for next weekend in Ikenne-Remo, as the team edges closer to qualification for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
