Former Italy national team coach Arrigo Sacchi says AC Milan plays the European style of football with Serie A club Atalanta.

Sacchi, who led the Italy national team to the 1994 World Cup campaign and lost to Brazil on penalties, praised Rossoneri for building on promising young players with little older players that have thrust the success of the club this season.

The Italian gaffer attributing part of the success of AC Milan to the management, marvelled at how the club have been able to acquire such wonderful talents while operating a balanced record.

According to La Gazzetta Dello Sport, Sacchi underlined that though Milan is not that formidable, their fighting spirit and style of play are fantastic.

Sacchi said, “Milan are not the strongest squad, but they are the one closest in spirit to a European style of football, more international, along with Atalanta.

“Milan is made up of a group of young lads and a few old boys who have given so much. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is no longer a great player at his age, but he remains a great man.

“The club deserves credit for balancing the books and creating a team out of mainly unknown players. They mustn’t lose that enthusiasm, that style of football,” he added.

Meanwhile, Sacchi branded AC Milan’s local rivals, Inter Milan, as a club not ready to evolve their style of football adding that the style is stuck in the 1960s.

Inter Milan struggles to leapfrog AC Milan on the top of the table to win the Scudetto with two points behind and a game in hand against Bologna today, Wednesday.

Sacchi noted that Nerazzurri plays good football but is not standard enough to drive them to European success.

He said, “On the other hand, inter have a much stronger squad, but the football they play is still stuck in the 1960s.

“Interplay that football well, but it is an outdated style that doesn’t help them at the international level,” he added.

However, the Italian coach not being critical of Simone Inzaghi advised the Nerazzurri boss to evolve the style of football to an innovative and international level.

“Inzaghi needs to make another step if he wants to enter into a more modern football and evolve. I think the aspiration is to win at international level, much like the Italy squad did, by playing an innovative and courageous football,” he said.
