Lionel Messi delivered another dazzling performance as Inter Miami CF finally secured its first victory at the club’s new stadium with a convincing 2-0 win over Portland Timbers in Major League Soccer action on Sunday.

The Argentine superstar scored once and provided an assist in a dominant display at the 26,700-capacity Nu Stadium, helping Miami end a frustrating run of results at their new home ground.

  • Messi scored the opening goal in the 31st minute with a trademark left-foot finish after an assist from Telasco Segovia.
  • Before halftime, Messi provided an assist for Germán Berterame, who scored Miami’s second goal.
  • The win ended Inter Miami’s poor run at their new home stadium, where they had previously recorded three draws and one loss.

Messi opened the scoring in the 31st minute, finishing off a brilliant flowing move with a trademark left-foot strike after being set up by Telasco Segovia.

Just before half-time, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner turned provider, bursting into the penalty area before laying a perfect pass for Germán Berterame to slot home Miami’s second goal.

The 38-year-old former FC Barcelona forward continues to dominate MLS defenses, taking his tally to 12 league goals this season while contributing five goals and six assists in his last four appearances.

Inter Miami had struggled to impress since relocating from Fort Lauderdale to Nu Stadium in April, drawing three and losing one of their opening four home league matches.

However, Messi’s brilliance ensured the club finally celebrated its first MLS victory in front of its home supporters at the new venue.

The win moves Miami to second place in the Eastern Conference standings with 28 points from 14 matches, just two behind leaders Nashville SC as they continue their title defense after winning last season’s MLS Cup.

Coach Guillermo Hoyos’ side will now turn attention to their final fixture before the World Cup break when they face the Philadelphia Union on May 24.
