A former Manchester United player, Wayne Rooney, opines that the present drop in the team’s performance started in 2009 during Sir Alex Ferguson’s era.
Rooney stated that the exit of Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez in the summer transfer window of 2009 to Real Madrid and Manchester City respectively heralded the club’s diminishing performance.
According to the former United striker, despite Sir Alex Ferguson winning the Premier League, EFL Cup and also getting to the final of the Champions League in 2009 after the exit of the duo, he attributed the success as a miraculous achievement.

He revealed that Ferguson tried frustrating Ronaldo’s dream move to the Bernabeu for about a year, but the forward was later successful in the 2009 summer transfer window.
Carlos Tevez could have stayed back but he could not resist the mouthwatering offers presented by Manchester United’s rival neighbour, Manchester City, and the love the fans showered on him.
United went on to win the Premier League in 2011 and 2013 but the present Derby County boss thinks the current waning in the club started in 2009 when Ronaldo and Tevez left Old Trafford.
