The police have arrested and detained one, Mr. Effiom Nsefik and his wife for allegedly assaulting Cross River State’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Irene Ugbo, over a misunderstanding.

It was gathered that the development led to the hospitalisation of the PPRO.

Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Igiri Ewa, confirmed the couple’s arrest on Saturday, saying that the couple has been detained after the PPRO was taken to the hospital for medical attention.

SP Ugbo was said to have been attacked by the couple who happened to be relatives of her landlord following a slight disagreement that ensued over a dog.

The couple and the Police PRO were said to have had misunderstandings in the past, and the latest misunderstanding resulted in the attack on the police officer, a development that landed her in the hospital.

When asked if the matter is going to be charge to court as the police have no right to detain the couple unnecessarily without charging them to court, the deputy Police PRO said the attack on SP Ugbo, was unprovoked and uncalled for, stressing that the law would be allowed to take its course on the matter.
