Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Labour Party, Imo State Chapter has categorically rejected the nomination of Mrs Pauline Ugochi Onyeka as the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, in charge of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Imo state.

The party made its position known in a communique issued after its crucial meeting of members of the State Working Committee, SWC, candidates of the party at all levels, members of the National Working Committee, NWC, from Imo State and the National Vice Chairman, South East of the party at the Party’s State secretariat held weekend in Owerri.

Labour Party described Mrs Onyeka as politically exposed and encumbered to hold such a sensitive p position of a REC in Imo State and called for her nomination to be dropped in order to ensure transparency and fairness in the coming general elections.

In the document also signed by Comrade Aku Obidinma, state publicity secretary, the Party declared that its chapter in Imo State is “united with all her candidates for the forthcoming 2023 election.”

The Party also reaffirmed that Distinguished Senator Onyewuchi Ezenwa the highest political office holder in the State is the Apex Leader of the Party in the State.

“The Labour Party in Imo State condemn the recent nomination of one Mrs Pauline Onyeka Ugochi who is politically exposed and encumbered as the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Imo State,” the party declared.

The Party in Imo State passes a vote of confidence on the party’s National and State Working Committees led by Barr. Julius Abure and Dr Ambrose Onyekwere respectively.
