The Labour Party (LP) in Enugu State has lost two House of Representatives lawmakers and a state House of Assembly member to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
First to defect was Rep. Dennis Agbo, the member of the House of Representatives, representing Igbo-Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency.
He made the announcement on Wednesday, giving various reasons.
On Thursday, Rep. Chidi Obetta, a first time House of Representatives member, representing Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency decamped as well.
Also, Malachi Onyechi, representing the Nsukka West State Constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly also announced that he has dumped the LP.
This was confirmed by Dan Nwomeh, media aide to Governor Peter Mbah.
Nwomeh said: “Happening now at the state PDP headquarters: Three national and state assembly members rejoining PDP from LP.
“They are Rep. Dennis Agbo, representing Igboeze/Udenu Federal Constituency, Rep. Mark Obetta, representing Igboeze South/Nsukka Federal Constituency, and Malachi Onyechi, representing Nsukka West State Constituency.”
Meanwhile, Rep. Agbo, a two-term federal lawmaker attributed his decision join the PDP to to the impressive performance of Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, the internal crisis rocking the Labour Party, and the overwhelming calls from his constituents.

“The performance of the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah since inauguration has been nothing short of outstanding
“I have had the privilege of supporting and contributing to the administration’s commitment to moving the state forward,” he said.
Rep. Agbo also cited the division in the LP and the need to align politically with the state government for the benefit of his constituents as part of his reason.
Rep. Agbo said: “In deference to the popular wishes of the highly enterprising people of Igbo-Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency, I have decided to resign my membership of the Labour Party and return to the Peoples Democratic Party.”
He emphasized that working from the same political platform as Gov. Mbah will create the synergy needed for greater development in his constituency and the state.
