LG Chairman launches peace and conflict resolution committee, urges leaders to embrace harmony

The Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Council, Comrade Friday Warri, has inaugurated a 20-member Peace and Conflict Resolution Committee aimed at fostering harmony among communities in the Isoko South area. Tasked with identifying, mediating, and resolving conflicts, the committee’s mandate is to ensure long-term peace within and between communities.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Comrade Warri praised the committee members for their commitment and emphasized the importance of fairness and integrity in their roles. He highlighted the committee’s responsibilities, which include identifying early signs of conflict, intervening in disputes, and promoting peace-building advocacy throughout Isoko South.

Additionally, Warri outlined that the committee will work closely with security agencies and stakeholders to prevent conflicts from escalating. The council leader called for the development of a sustainable action plan to maintain peace across communities.

The committee is chaired by veteran journalist and NUJ State Officer, Comrade Emmanuel Ekebe, with members including prominent figures from traditional and religious institutions, such as HRM Ovie of Emede, HRM Ovie of Aviara, Bishop Aruakpor John, Barr. Joe Arausi, and High Chief Iduh Amadhe as advisors.

Committee members represent various clans within the council, bringing together leaders from Irri, Emede, Olomoro, Igbide, Enwhe, Aviara, and more. Alfred Omoro will serve as the committee’s secretary.

Comrade Warri urged the committee to begin its work immediately, with the goal of creating lasting peace that will support sustainable development across Isoko South. He also advised community leaders to avoid policies and actions that could ignite conflicts or disturbances in their areas.

Responding on behalf of the committee, Comrade Emmanuel Ekebe thanked the chairman for the opportunity to serve, pledging that the committee will work diligently to fulfill its responsibilities and justify the trust placed in them. High Chief Iduh Amadhe also commended Comrade Warri for this proactive step, urging committee members to carry out their roles with integrity and dedication.
