KOMU VC marks 365days in office, lauds Gov. Uzodimma

The management and staff of Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University, KOMU, Ogboko, in Ideato South LGA of Imo State last week, rolled out the drums to celebrate the one year in office of the institution’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Ikechuchukwu N. S Dozie, as they held the 2nd Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service.

The anniversary featured an ecumenical thanksgiving service which took place at the Senate Building of the University and had in attendance, Distinguished Sen. Hope Uzodinma, ably represented by the Sole Administrator of Ideato South LGA, Pastor Bede Ikeaka, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ikechukwu N. S Dozie, his lovely wife, Dr (Mrs.) C.P. Dozie and Principal Officers of the university.

Other dignitaries, who graced the event, were the traditional rulers of the host communities led by the Chairman Ideato Council of Traditional Rulers, His Royal Highness, HRH Eze G.A. Ezeihekaibee (V), Ezeukwu and the Clan Head of Umuma-Ebenmano and a host of other dignitaries.

The Special Church Service was conducted by Rev. Fr. (Prof.) Jude Onuoha, Venerable Kelechi Okere, Rev. Fr. Jude Onyeakazi and Rev. Fr. Dr Nath Okwara, who is also the University/Host Community Liaison Officer.

During the service, prayers and thanksgiving were offered to God for the peace and progress of the University and the state just as the clerics also prayed God to grant the Visitor, the Vice-Chancellor and the Principal Officers wisdom and synergy to take the university to greater heights.

In his address titled: “Accelerating Our Progress To Global Competitiveness And World-Class Status- A First Year Assessment,” Prof. Dozie thanked God Almighty who made it possible for him to mark his first year in office.

The VC, who appreciated Governor Uzodimma for appointing him the Vice-Chancellor as well as his administration’s generous support to the new university, listed his modest achievements within the period in review include; a smooth transition from Eastern Palm University to Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University, approval of the university’s domain name by the Nigerian Internet Registration Association (NIRA) and development of the website, regular payment of workers’ salary by government and the release of the 2021/2022 promotion exercise of pioneer staff.

Prof. Dozie also listed procurement of four(4) Toyota fairly used vehicles for Principal Officers, completion of teaching staff recruitment exercise, 100% NUC accreditation result for 11 programmes, introduction of new academic programmes, development of virtual classroom for online teaching and learning, provision of 100 E-pads for staff and student’s use donated by NCC, staff capacity building training, improvement of student’s welfare, regular consultations with host communities and a host of others.

He advised staff and all other stakeholders to renew their commitment to the task of making the varsity a great citadel until the University attains its dream level of global competitiveness and world-class status.

In his speech, Governor Hope Uzodimma, who spoke through his representative, assured the university community of government’s continued support and advised the traditional rulers of the host communities to partner with university management to ensure the actualization of the noble goals of the institution.

The high point of the occasion was the cutting of the anniversary cake and the award of certificates of merits and prizes to deserving staff among other activities.
