The Kano State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress on Wednesday staged a peaceful protest against rising insecurity, joining similar demonstrations held across the country to draw attention to Nigeria’s worsening security challenges.
The protest march began at the Murtala Muhammad National Library and proceeded to the Government House roundabout, where labour leaders formally presented a letter of demands to the Kano State Government.
Speaking to journalists after receiving the protesters, Governor Abba Yusuf, represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr. Sulaiman Wali, commended the NLC for the peaceful and orderly conduct of the rally. He described the protest as responsible and in line with democratic principles.
Wali assured organised labour of the state government’s commitment to maintaining a cordial and productive relationship with workers, adding that the concerns raised by the NLC would be forwarded to the President.
“I want to assure you, on behalf of the Governor and the Government of Kano State, that this administration will continue to have a positive relationship with labour,” he said, stressing that the government remains open to constructive engagement.
He added that the state would continue to work with organised labour in a way that promotes development and stability, both in Kano State and across the country. Wali also reaffirmed that peaceful protest is a constitutional right, noting that the government’s commendation of the NLC was informed by the discipline displayed during the rally.
Earlier, a representative of the NLC President, Comrade Muttaqa Yusha’u, said the protest followed a resolution of the National Executive Council of the congress to stage a nationwide peaceful demonstration.

According to him, the action was intended to spotlight Nigeria’s security challenges while encouraging renewed efforts by both federal and state governments to address the situation.
“We are here in Kano in line with the decision of the National Executive Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress to hold a peaceful rally nationwide,” Yusha’u said.
Also speaking, the Kano State Chairman of the NLC, Comrade Kabir Inuwa, said the protest reflected the growing concern of Nigerian workers over the deteriorating security situation in the country.
He called for improved welfare and stronger support for security personnel and their families, stressing that sustained collaboration between government and organised labour remains the most realistic path to lasting peace and security.
