The Kano State Government has announced an immediate ban on all live political programmes across media platforms in the state.
The state commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Waiya, said the ban was part of new measures to curb the spread of inflammatory content and safeguard the state’s cultural and religious values.
According to a statement signed by the information ministry’s Director of Special Duties, Sani Yola, the commissioner made this known during a quarterly meeting he held with media executives in the state and officials from the ministry.
Yola quoted Comrade Waiya to have said, the government aims to prevent the spread of inflammatory content capable of endangering the cultural and religious harmony of the state, with no intention at suppressing political opposition.
Also the commissioner has barred presenters from asking provocative questions or making suggestive gestures that could lead to statements capable of defaming individuals or damaging the image of Kano State.

The statement also highlighted that, anyone appearing on media platforms for interviews must sign an undertaking to refrain from making abusive, defamatory, or culturally offensive remarks.
Meanwhile, the commissioner further commended the media houses for their cooperation so far, noting that there is a significant reduction in unethical content since their previous engagements.
While highlighting the government’s commitment to preserving the state’s moral standards, he disclosed that sensitization programmes have been organized for political programme presenters, media commentators, and the Council of Friday Imams in an effort to encourage responsible communication in public discussions.
During the meeting, media executives pledged their continued cooperation and offered valuable suggestions on improving broadcast standards and sanitizing language towards promoting peace and mutual respect in the state.
