Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has scheduled June 27, 2025, for the final judgment in the high-profile case filed by suspended Kogi Central senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The lawsuit was triggered by her suspension over alleged misconduct by the Senate, led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Sen. Akpoti-Uduaghan argues that the decision was biased and unjust, prompting her to take legal action.

The suit lists the National Assembly, the Senate, Senate President Akpabio, and Senator Neda Imasuem, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Code of Conduct as defendants.

Originally presided over by Justice Obiorah Egwuatu, the case was re-assigned to Justice Nyako after Justice Egwuatu recused himself.

During proceedings on Monday, Sen. Akpoti-Uduaghan’s lead counsel, Jibrin Okutekpa (SAN), confirmed that all necessary documents had been submitted as directed by the court.

Defense counsels, Paul Daudu and Ekwo Ejembi, representing the Senate and the Senate president, respectively, also acknowledged filing their responses.

However, the defense raised a new issue, accusing Sen. Akpoti-Uduaghan of contempt of court.

They claimed she violated a court order by posting a satirical apology to the Senate president on her Facebook page on March 27, 2025, which was also published in newspapers.

Sen. Akpoti-Uduaghan’s co-counsel, Michael Numan, argued that the alleged publication bore no direct link to his client.

He further noted that the plaintiff had also filed a contempt motion against the defendants for allegedly violating earlier court directives.

With all motions now before the court, Justice Nyako announced that judgment will be delivered on June 27, bringing closer a resolution to a case that has stirred political and legal debates nationwide.
