Another member of the Kano State Executive Council, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Special Services, Air Vice Marshal Ibrahim Umaru (rtd), has resigned from office with immediate effect.
Umaru conveyed his decision in a resignation letter addressed to Governor Abba Yusuf, citing recent developments in the state’s political landscape as the basis for his action.
In the letter, the retired air force officer expressed gratitude to the governor for the confidence reposed in him, recalling his initial appointment as director general of the Special Services Directorate in June 2023 and his subsequent elevation to the position of a commissioner.
“It has been a distinct honour and privilege to be entrusted with the duty of ensuring the safety and security of our beloved Kano State under your leadership,” Umaru said.
However, he noted that following what he described as “the recent turn of events,” he considered it necessary to step aside in the overall interest of the state and the administration.
He described the decision as difficult but taken after careful consideration.
Umaru also anchored his decision on his long-standing political and ideological alignment with former Kano State Governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, whose principles, he said, guided his service in office.
“My service in these roles has been guided by the enduring principles of our leader and mentor, His Excellency, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and the Kwankwasiyya Movement, which emphasise justice, discipline and service to the people,” he stated.

Despite his resignation, the former commissioner pledged continued support for the Kano State government and its efforts toward ensuring peace, security and development across the state.
He concluded the letter with prayers for Gov. Yusuf, Kano State and Nigeria.
Umaru’s exit is the latest in a series of resignations and absences involving top government officials in Kano, as the state continues to witness political realignments following recent shifts within the ruling elite.
Earlier the Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Yusuf Kofar Mata, and the Commissioner for Sports and Youths Development, Rabiu Kwankwaso had resigned from their positions.
