Phil Jones may be on his way out of Manchester United as it is rumoured that the French league 1 club, Bordeaux, is looking towards acquiring the services of the centre-back in mid-season.
The erstwhile English player who recently featured for Manchester United in a Premier League match against Wolves on the 3rd of January for 90 minutes, has been affected with a series of injuries that kept him on the sidelines for quite a while.
Jones has not played football for some time but Bordeaux is trying to bring the player to bolster its defence before the winter transfer window comes to an end.
Emerging reports from France revealed that the French club is trying to link Jones up with Vladimir Petkovic’s side for the remaining campaign of the 2021-22 season.
However, It is not clear the option Bordeaux will be taking to secure the services of Jones as it was not expected that the French club needed a defender. Probably, with Otavio and Josh Maja both set to leave, Jones will likely be signed either on loan or by a permanent deal.
More details from the Twitter handle of Fabrizio Romano revealed that while Bordeaux is keen on bringing Red Devil’s centre-back to the team before the January transfer deadline elapses, Jones is very interested in making move to create an avenue for more playing time to further his football career.
As both parties have made up their minds, they are waiting for the decision of Ralf Rangnick, the head coach of Manchester United, to know if he still needs the services of Jones to help give his team a defensive backup.
Jones who is below the pecking order in the Red Devil’s defence options, with the likes of Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane, and Victor Lindelof ahead of him, has about 18 months left in his contract at Manchester United.
Rangnick, after the defeat to Wolves, noted that Jones played well like a player who has been active in the game without recourse to his long absence caused by injuries.
In the press interview, he said, “I think he did well, having not played for two years at this kind of level.
“We didn’t see that in the game. He did his job and did exactly what I expected him to do.”
Jones’s last appearance for Manchester United was in January 2020 in a game with Tranmere Rovers that ended 6-0 for the Red Devil’s.
