Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas has extolled the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), His Excellency Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, for his resilience to challenged the outcome of the 2023 Delta State gubernatorial elections to the Supreme Court where the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Obowevwori was duly declared the winner.

Joel-Onowakpo said although the judgment of the apex court on Friday , January 19, 2023 dashed the hopes of APC members, whose expectations were to celebrate the victory of the immediate past Deputy Senate President, “we give God all the glory”.

In a statement released by the Delta South representative on Saturday, January 20, 2023, he underscored the rippling influence of Senator Omo-Agege’s leadership pedigree, highlighting its importance to 2023 APC candidates’ elections.

“I express my sincere gratitude for your unwavering support in our recent electoral pursuits,” Joel-Onowakpo said. “While celebrating victories in certain areas, the recent Supreme Court judgment on our Gubernatorial candidate, His Excellency Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, did not unfold in our favour and as APC family, our expectations were dashed.

“I extend heartfelt congratulations to HE Ovie Omo-Agege for his resilience and dedication to the APC cause in Delta and Nigeria at large. His commendable efforts in rallying support for all our candidates and providing leadership deserve our acknowledgement and our praise.”

Furthermore, Joel-Onowakpo noted that the APC in his senatorial district and Delta state can metamorphose into a formidable party in the triad of unity, commitment and determination, charging members to be resolute to meander the challenges.

He added: “Optimistically, with unity, commitment, and determination, the APC can emerge as a formidable force in Delta South and Delta State. Your steadfast support remains crucial as we navigate these challenges.”

However, the Delta South representative congratulated Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his victory and advised him to be a governor to all Deltans irrespective of political linings and inclinations.

He noted that Delta state as the largest oil producing states in the federation should be compounded with development that commensurate its status and added that he is ready to collaborate with the Governor to achieve the goal.

“At this juncture, I congratulate our Governor, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on his victory at the Supreme Court. I urge him to embrace his role as the Governor of Delta State by ensuring fairness to all Deltans.

“Delta State yearns for development fitting its status as one of the richest Crude Oil Producing States in Nigeria. As the Senator representing the oil-rich Delta South Senatorial District, I am the Senator for everyone, irrespective of party affiliations.

“I am willing to collaborate with him to bring about the needed development, recognizing the fact that, it is the only reason we seek public service, focusing on our forgotten people despite our substantial contribution to national development,” Joel-Onowakpo stated.

Nevertheless, he commended party members for their doggedness and appealed to them to keep the hope alive for the progress of Delta State.
