Nollywood actor Jim Iyke has opened up about the emotional struggles that contributed to the collapse of his marriage, revealing that he lost his spark and became completely consumed by fatherhood during a difficult phase of his life.
Speaking during an interview with Chude Jideonwo, the actor said his emotional state at the time affected his relationship with his wife, who eventually could no longer recognise the man she married.
According to him, he became overly devoted to caring for his son while struggling internally.
“I lost my spark, and my wife suffered for it. And then I became an obsessive dad. I gave everything in me to my son. I was a proper stay-at-home dad,” he said.
The actor admitted that although he excelled as a father, he failed as a husband during that period.
“I became an excellent father but a woeful husband. After a while, she said, ‘I can’t find the man I married anymore.’”

Jim Iyke explained that he was honest with his wife about his emotional struggles and uncertain about how long it would take him to heal and rediscover himself.
“I told her, ‘I don’t know what it’d take for me to heal and bring myself back. If you want to wait for me, I’d appreciate it. And if you can’t, I would understand.’ She said she couldn’t, so we shook hands and parted as friends,” he added.
His revelation has since sparked reactions on social media, with many users praising him for being open about mental and emotional struggles in marriage, while others stressed the importance of communication and emotional support between couples.
