Ize-Iyamu, Ogbeide-Ihama emerge APC candidates for Edo South in parallel primaries

In a landslide victory, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama on Monday emerged as the winners of the All Progressives Congress (APC) parallel primaries for the Edo South Senatorial District in the upcoming 2027 National Assembly elections.

As early as 9 am, eligible voters were seen queuing at various wards, from Oredo, Egor and Ikpoba-Okha as well as Ovia North-East and Ovia South West Local Government Areas, including other wards in Uhunmwonde and Orhionmwon, demonstrating their eagerness to participate in the democratic process.

Following the vote count, the Chief Returning Officer, Abubakar Muhammad Kabiru declared Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the winner, acknowledging his success in securing the highest number of votes.

According to the returning officer, Ize-Iyamu scored 33,399 votes to emerge the winner, as Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama polled 12,560 votesz while Neda Imasuen got 5,107 votes.

Officials of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) were on the ground to observe the conduct of the primaries.

In a different primaries result made available to reporters inside the Urhokpota Hall, Ogbeide-Ihama was declared the winner and enthusiastic party faithfuls escorted him in a road walk to his mansion.

Kabiru Ajana, the Returning Officer, after the collation of results from the seven local government areas declared the emergence of Ogbeide-Ihama as the winner.

In attendance at the collation of the result was the Deputy Governor, Dennis Idahosa, Paddy Iyamu, who was declared winner of the Oredo Federal House of Representatives seat the previous Saturday and others who are said to be loyalists of Governor Monday Okpebholo.
