The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) today held its third quarterly consultative meeting with civil society organisations at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja ahead of the governorship election in Anambra State.
The meeting was chaired by the acting Chairman of INEC, Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu, who used the platform to update stakeholders on upcoming electoral activities and reaffirm the commission’s commitment to credible, inclusive, and transparent elections.
Mrs. Agbamuche-Mbu emphasized the importance of continued engagement, while acknowledging the departure of former INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, praising his legacy of innovation and institutional integrity.
Reflecting on recent electoral developments, the acting chairman reported the successful conduct of bye-elections held on August 16, 2025, across 12 states, including two senatorial districts, five federal constituencies, nine state assembly constituencies, and two court-ordered reruns in Enugu and Kano States.

She said certificates of return have been presented to the winners in accordance with the Electoral Act 2022.
Also, the acting INEC boss provided an update on the upcoming Anambra State governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025, with 10 out of 13 preparatory activities already completed.
The remaining tasks include the publication of the notice of poll on October 25, the end of campaigns on November 6, and the election day itself.
Mrs. Agbamuche-Mbu further disclosed that the FCT area council elections are scheduled for February 21, 2026, covering 68 constituencies.
She stated that eight out of 13 scheduled activities have been completed.
For the Ekiti and Osun States governorship elections scheduled for June 20 and August 8, 2026, respectively, she said the official notices of election had already been published.
