The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially reinstated Sly Ezeokenwa as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), adhering to a recent Supreme Court judgment. This development resolves a protracted leadership dispute within the party and reaffirms Ezeokenwa’s position as APGA’s authentic leader.
INEC’s decision followed its meeting on Tuesday, during which the Supreme Court ruling was reviewed. The apex court, in a unanimous verdict delivered by a five-member panel led by Justice Stephen Adah, invalidated claims by Edozie Njoku, who had previously asserted himself as the party’s chairman. The judgment, issued on November 27, 2024, unequivocally confirmed Ezeokenwa as the rightful chairman of APGA.
Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, released a statement emphasizing the Commission’s compliance with the Supreme Court’s ruling. “The Commission met today, Tuesday, 17th December 2024, and among other issues, discussed the leadership matter in APGA, which has been the subject of litigation.

“The Commission has been served with the judgment of the Supreme Court with Appeal No. SC/CV/824/2024 APGA & ANOR vs OYE & ORS, delivered on 27th November 2024, recognizing Barr. Sylvester (Sly) Ezeokenwa as the chairman of the party.
“In compliance with the judgment of the apex court, the Commission has restored Barr. Ezeokenwa as the Chairman of APGA and updated his name on our website accordingly,” the statement read.
This reinstatement marks a significant turning point for APGA, bringing clarity and stability to its leadership structure. It also underscores the importance of judicial intervention in resolving political disputes, paving the way for the party to focus on its agenda ahead of upcoming electoral activities.
