Indorama Eleme Petrochemical Company Limited (IEPCL) has inaugurated a community health facility for one of it’s host communities, Okerewa in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Our correspondent gathered that the health facility is a joint venture project between Indorama and Okerewa.
Okerewa is one of the beneficiaries of the 7.5 percent equity share alloted to the host communities of Indorama when the Indian investors bought over the Eleme Petrochemical Company Limited .
The health facility is strategically located in the heart of the community and is equipped with world-class healthcare infrastructure and modern medical equipment.
Speaking shortly after the commissioning ceremony, the Chief Medical Consultant of the hospital, Dr. Benson Cole, announced that the hospital has commenced full operations and is committed to providing comprehensive, high-quality healthcare services at affordable and subsidized rates.
According to him, the facility is fully equipped to provide a wide range of medical services, including general medical consultations, eye care, minor and major surgeries, radiology services featuring digital X-ray, 2D and 4D ultrasound, cardiology services such as echocardiography, Doppler scan, and ECG, as well as a modern laboratory capable of handling haematology, chemical pathology, microbiology, serology, and immunology.
He added that the hospital also features private wards, VIP wards, general male and female wards, a paediatric ward, a fully functional accident and emergency unit, and a well-stocked pharmacy that provides quality medications at affordable prices through a reputable pharmaceutical partner in Rivers State.
Dr. Cole further disclosed that the hospital provides comprehensive maternal healthcare services, including safe deliveries and caesarean sections, while specialist consultations in areas such as cardiology and gynaecology will be available through scheduled specialist clinics.
“Our goal is to ensure that over 90 percent of patients who come to this facility receive complete care here, with only a few cases requiring referral elsewhere,” he said.

He explained that the hospital currently operates a 30-bed capacity, with provision for expansion to 50 beds as demand increases.
While noting that the facility possesses virtually every major diagnostic equipment required for modern healthcare delivery, he said the only diagnostic equipment yet to be installed are CT scan and MRI machines.
Describing the hospital as a model for community healthcare, Dr. Cole emphasized that the foundation is not profit-driven but established primarily to serve the health needs of the people.
“Every payment made goes towards sustaining the operations of the hospital. Our charges will remain moderate, while our services will be of the highest quality. ”
We have assembled experienced medical professionals and competent management staff to ensure the long-term sustainability of this facility. This is a hospital built to stand the test of time,” he stated.
Stakeholders at the event commended the people of Okerewa Community for prudently investing their community development benefits from Indorama Eleme Petrochemicals in the establishment of a modern healthcare facility.
They also urged residents and stakeholders to collectively safeguard and sustain the hospital for future generations.
The king of Eleme, Philip Obele, applauded Indorama Eleme Petrochemicals for responding positively to the healthcare needs of the community.
He also charged the hospital management to uphold excellence and build a legacy that would position the facility as a centre of medical excellence.
Vice Chairman of Eleme Local Government Area, Mrs. Virtue Ekee, described the hospital as a landmark achievement and a source of pride for the entire Eleme Kingdom.
She noted that the facility would provide premium healthcare services not only to the people of Okerewa Community but also to residents across Eleme and Rivers State.
She further urged the management and staff to take ownership of the hospital by protecting its facilities and maintaining the highest standards of service to ensure its sustainability.
The Indorama Okerewa Community Hospital operates a 24-hour healthcare service, offering accessible, affordable, and quality medical care.
