Emmanuel Obasi, the former husband of Nollywood actress Judy Austin, has addressed the backlash surrounding a viral video of him breaking down emotionally while speaking about his children.

Key highlights:

  • Emmanuel Obasi said his tears were about his children, not his ex-wife.
  • He explained his struggle to maintain a bond with them.
  • Obasi criticized reactions mocking his emotional moment.
  • The video followed his comments about Judy Austin and Yul Edochie.
  • He said his focus remains rebuilding his relationship with his children.

The viral moment sparked reactions from Nigerians online, with some questioning the reason behind his tears. However, Obasi has clarified that his emotional reaction was not connected to his former wife but to his struggle to maintain a relationship with his children.

Speaking on the controversy on his Instagram live, the businessman insisted that his pain was centred on fatherhood and his desire to be present in his children’s lives.

“I want to make it clear, I’m not crying for a woman. I have a wife. I’m crying for my children, which I have been trying my best to make sure I have a relationship with them,” he said.

Obasi also expressed disappointment that many focused on his handkerchief during the emotional moment instead of the message behind his tears.

He questioned why attention was placed on mocking his reaction rather than understanding the emotional challenges of a father trying to reconnect with his children.

The clarification comes after his appearance on The brunch podcast, where he spoke about his past relationship with Judy Austin and made claims concerning her alleged relationship with Nollywood actor Yul Edochie.

The video has continued to generate discussions online, as Emmanuel Obasi maintains that his priority remains his children and rebuilding a stronger bond with them.
