Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has disclosed that his administration is strategizing and putting modalities in place to decentralize power, improve efficiency and free the people from Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC).

Gov. Okpebholo disclosed this while speaking at the 52nd Annual Convention of Uromi Community Association of Nigeria (UCAN) held at the Uromi City Hall in Esan North-East Local Government Area of the state.

The governor noted that the issue of electricity has become a major challenge for Edo State people following the epileptic power supply from BEDC which has negatively affected businesses across Edo State.

He assured Edo people of even development adding that he Is in office to work for Edo people.

“I am in office to work for Edo people as I will touch every area with developmental projects that will benefit and improve the lives of my people.

“The issue of electricity is very important because it has become a problem for us as a people. We flagged off 100MW of power in Benin City, we will also have 100MW here too.

“The inauguration of 100MW of power in Edo Central will enable us to decentralize the power sector and ensure our people in Afemai and Edo Central enjoy electricity,” the governor said.

Gov. Okpebholo said his administration’s commitment in transforming the state remains resolute hence his administration has embarked on numerous developmental projects across the three senatorial districts of the state.

“My administration has flagged off 100 MW electricity projects in Benin City and will also have a 100 MW in Edo Central Senatorial District to decentralise the power system in the state.

“The success of my administration in the last one year is due to the support from President BolaTinubu and I am happy that His Royal Highness, Anselm Edenojie II is supporting the quest for 2.5 million votes for the president in the 2027 presidential election,” he added.

Gov. Okpebholo said he is optimistic of securing 2.5 million votes for Tinubu in the forthcoming general election and wants the people of Uromi to work towards actualizing the target.

“I have even told the president not to come to Edo during the campaign. But only come to Edo during the commissioning of projects,” he disclosed.

He wondered why the former administration led by Godwin Obaseki rushed to commission uncompleted projects across the state on the eve of that government’s departure from office.

Earlier, the Ojuoromi of Uromi, Anselm Edenojie 11, drew the attention of the governor to some of the challenges facing the people of Edo Central Senatorial District, calling on him to look into the abandonment of Ahojie Township Stadium.

“Sports and recreation are vital to the development of any society, especially for our youth. It is with deep regret that I note the long-abandoned Ahojie Township Stadium project.

“A functional stadium in Uromi would not only promote youth engagement in sports but also folster talent development, spur economic activity, and instill community pride,” the monarch stated.
