The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a hunter, Ajegba Joseph, for attempting to kill his romantic rival after finding him in bed with his girlfriend in Ikun-Akoko, Akoko South-West Local Government Area.
According to reports, Joseph, armed with an unlicensed single-barrel gun, stormed the home of his girlfriend, a divorcee, only to discover his rival – also a hunter – in an intimate act with her. Enraged, he shot the unsuspecting victim in the leg through the window, leaving him wounded and bleeding.
During a press briefing on Wednesday, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abayomi Oladipupo, revealed that the incident occurred last month. The police swiftly arrested Joseph and recovered the weapon used in the attack. The victim, who was rescued by the police, is currently receiving treatment at the hospital and is in stable condition.

“A case of attempted murder was reported to the police. The victim, who visited his friend (a woman) in her house, was shot by Ajegba Joseph, a 38-year-old hunter who also claims to be romantically involved with the woman. He arrived at the scene armed and shot the victim through the window. The suspect was arrested, and the gun with an expended cartridge was recovered,” said CP Oladipupo.
When asked why he committed the crime, Joseph admitted to being fueled by anger and disappointment.
“I went out hunting after drinking some beer. I ran out of cartridges and decided to return to my girlfriend’s house to spend the night. When I got there, I saw the door was locked, so I peeped through the window and saw my colleague, another hunter, in bed with her. I lost control and shot at them,” Joseph confessed.
This shocking love triangle has left the local community in disbelief, with many questioning what led to the deadly confrontation. The case is expected to go to court, where Joseph could face serious charges for attempted murder.
