Kogi State has asked security agencies to hold Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan responsible should violence break out in the state, following her homecoming rally held on Tuesday.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Kingsley Fanwo, the Commissioner for Information, accused the senator representing Kogi Central of brazenly defying a governmental directive that prohibits political gatherings.

Fanwo expressed grave concerns over what he characterized as Sen. Akpoti-Uduaghan’s “blatant attempts to incite violence and create unnecessary tension” within the community.

He further alleged that her visit was strategically designed to provoke unrest in Kogi Central, thereby undermining the stability the ban was intended to uphold.

Despite the official restrictions, the senator was met with an overwhelming show of support from her constituents during her rally in the Ihima community, located in the Okehi Local Government Area.

Starting as early as 8 am, enthusiastic crowds from all five local government areas of Kogi Central converged to welcome the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senator, illustrating a significant popular backing that contradicted the state government’s warnings.
