The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has debunked reports that patients in the North-West are excluded from the federal government’s dialysis subsidy programme.
The ministry described such reports as false and misleading.
This was contained in a press statement issued by the Head of Information, Public Relations of the Ministry of Health, Alaba Balogu.
It would be recalled that the federal government has approved a subsidy scheme that drastically reduces the cost of dialysis in federal hospitals.

Under the scheme, the cost of a dialysis session had been reduced from ₦50,000 to ₦12,000 in a deliberate effort to provide relief for patients with kidney-related diseases while expanding access to universal health coverage.
The pilot phase is currently being implemented in 11 federal tertiary health institutions across all six geopolitical zones.
The federal tertiary health institutions under the pilot scheme are the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, University of Jos Teaching Hospital, and the National Hospital, Abuja.
Others include the Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Metta, University College Hospital, Ibadan, University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, Federal Teaching Hospital, Owerri, and the Federal Medical Centre, Abakaliki
The ministry emphasis that the North-West is not excluded, adding that the pilot phase will be expanded to cover more federal hospitals across the country in due course, ensuring that no Nigerian is left behind in accessing life-saving dialysis services.
“The federal government remains firmly committed to reducing the burden of non-communicable diseases and safeguarding the health and well-being of all Nigerians,” the ministry said.
