A massive crowd of supporters drawn from across Kano State on Sunday converged in the state capital to publicly call on the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, to contest the 2027 Kano State governorship election.

The gathering featured representatives from the 44 local government areas, political groups, civil society organisations, and professional associations, who described Senator Barau as the most qualified to lead the state based on his record of service, philanthropy, and developmental interventions.

Speaking on behalf of the groups at the event, Professor Abdullahi Ibn Maji, Chairman of the Northwest Development Commission, said the gathering was a reflection of Senator Barau’s unmatched contributions to human and infrastructural development in the state and beyond.

According to him, Senator Barau is not just a politician but a builder of people and institutions, noting that he has helped to establish the Northwest Development Commission, provided scholarships, built hospitals, and supported youth employment with his record speaking for him.

He also cited the Senator’s role in facilitating a cardiovascular centre and paediatric unit at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, sponsoring hundreds of students for local and foreign studies, and donating motorcycles to security agencies which sparks the love from residents in the state.

In his remarks, Professor Muhammad Ibn Abdullahi, Chief of Staff to the Deputy Senate President, said it was the first time in the history of Kano that citizens from all parts of the state united to demand that one individual contest for the governorship seat.

“This is a historic occasion where people from all walks of life are pleading with Senator Barau to come out and contest. His interventions in health, education, agriculture, youth empowerment, and security have touched every corner of the state,” Abdullahi stated.

He noted that over 100 groups, including political and civic organisations, had mobilised for the call, adding that the overwhelming support cut across party lines due to Barau’s inclusive approach to development and humanitarian assistance.

Some of the groups present included the Kano North Tricycle Association, Northwest Youth Advancement Network, Renewed Kano with Barau, Tinubu-Barau Winning Team 2027, APC Ex-Councillors and Advisers Forum, and Nyan Support Group.
