Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has signed into law a bill establishing the Edo State College of Nursing, Health Sciences and Technology. The landmark development, which took place on Monday, May 5, 2025, at the Government House in Benin City, is expected to fast-track growth in Udomi-Uwessan and position the state as a regional hub for medical and technological training.
Governor Okpebholo, while appending his signature to the bill, described the initiative as a “dream come true” for the people of Udomi community, who have long clamoured for a healthcare institution in their area. He expressed deep gratitude to the Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA) for their cooperation and speedy passage of the bill, praising the synergy between the executive and legislative arms as a model of good governance.
“This bill marks a significant milestone not just for Udomi, but for Edo State as a whole,” the Governor said. “The establishment of this College of Nursing, Health Sciences and Technology will unlock economic opportunities, create jobs, and bring infrastructural development to Uwessan and its surrounding communities. We are setting a new benchmark for progress.”
Governor Okpebholo emphasized that the harmonious relationship between the executive and the legislature has become a catalyst for sustainable development across the state. He urged both arms of government to remain united in their commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Edo.
“This school will not only serve as a centre of excellence for nursing and health science education but will also attract attention to Edo State as a place of innovation and academic growth. Through the accompanying hospital and infrastructure, we are changing the narrative,” he added.

Also speaking at the event, the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, who led a delegation of lawmakers to witness the bill signing, commended Governor Okpebholo for his unwavering dedication to people-focused development.
“The 8th Assembly received this bill last month as part of your developmental blueprint,” Hon. Agbebaku stated. “After thorough legislative scrutiny, we concluded that the proposal is both timely and transformative. Today’s assent is a victory for Udomi, Uwessan, and the entire state.”
He further noted that the legislation, formally titled the Edo State College of Nursing, Health Sciences and Technology Law, Udomi, 2025, aligns with constitutional mandates and is a strategic move to drive health sector reforms in Esan Central Local Government Area and beyond.
With the signing of this law, Edo State takes leap forward in expanding educational access, healthcare services, and local development. The new college is expected to begin operations soon, marking a new chapter in the state’s journey toward inclusive growth and global competitiveness.
