Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State, has condemned the recent attack on soldiers in Kareto Town in Mobbar Local Government Area of the state.

Describing the attack as a heinous act of violence, Gov. Zulum expressed sympathy to the armed forces and the families of those who lost their lives.

“On behalf of the government and the good people of Borno, I convey our heartfelt condolences to the armed forces and families of the deceased over the demise of our fellow compatriots. May Allah rest their souls and grant fortitude to the affected families,” he stated.

The governor who conveyed the condolence message through a release made available to newsmen by the state Commissioner of Information and Internal Security, Prof. Usman Tar

Gov. emphasized that the attack underscores the ongoing challenges in resettling internally displaced persons back to their ancestral homes, including Kareto, one of over 20 targeted communities in northern Borno State.

Despite the setback, Gov. Zulum vowed that the state government would not be deterred from fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities, stating that “we remain committed to providing the dividends of democracy to our people in collaboration with federal agencies.”

He also commended the armed forces and other security agencies for their sacrifices in safeguarding the state.

“We are eternally grateful to our gallant military and security forces for all they have been doing to protect lives and property. The Kareto attack is a painful reminder of the adversary’s desperation to undermine our achievements and sow panic.

“I urge our people to remain resolute and supportive of our armed forces as they confront these threats daily,” the governor added.

It would be recalled that five soldiers were reported to have been killed by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in the state

The assault carried out on November 16, 2024, serves as a stark reminder of the persistent threat posed by Boko Haram insurgents in the state, and the North-East region at large.
