Governor Muhammadu Yahaya of Gombe State has signed into law the Gombe State Security, Traffic and Environmental Commission (GOSTEC) Bill, 2025.
The new legislation, which was passed by the Gombe State House of Assembly on February 25, 2025, repeals the Gombe State Agency for Social Services Law of 2018.
It paves the way for the establishment of a unified commission tasked with enhancing security, regulating traffic, and protecting the environment.
Under the provisions of the new law, the commission will operate as a state-owned body designed to complement the activities of conventional security agencies.
It will play a critical role in maintaining law and order, promoting traffic safety, and ensuring environmental cleanliness throughout Gombe State.

Gov. Yahaya’s administration has emphasised the importance of collaboration between the new commission and existing security outfits to ensure coordinated and community-based responses to the state’s evolving safety and environmental challenges.
The creation of the new commission follows recent government initiatives aimed at boosting security, including the distribution of 50 operational vehicles to various security agencies and the organisation of two high-level security summits.
These efforts reflect the state government’s ongoing commitment to peace, stability, and good governance.
At a brief ceremony, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Ibrahim Njodi, formally handed over a copy of the new law to the Director General of GOSTEC, retired Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bappah, who is tasked with overseeing its implementation.
