Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, has approved key leadership appointments in the state’s health sector as part of his administration’s ongoing reform agenda.
Dr. Lawan Bala has been named the new Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health.
Until his elevation, Dr. Bala served as the Executive Secretary of the Gombe State Hospital Management Services Board, where he was credited with repositioning secondary healthcare delivery across the state.
Announcing the appointments, the Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Ahmed Abdullahi, said the move aligns with the government’s commitment to consolidating recent gains in the sector, particularly after the successful hosting of the maiden Gombe State Health Summit.
He noted that recent implementation of the CONMESS and CONHESS salary structures for health workers, alongside the governor’s broader reforms, underscored the need for strong professional leadership at the ministry level.
