Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, on Wednesday, charged members of the state civil service commission and newly appointed permanent secretaries to uphold the highest standards of integrity, fairness and professionalism, warning that the success of his administration depends largely on a disciplined and merit-driven civil service.
The governor gave the admonition at the swearing-in ceremony of three members of the Delta State Civil Service Commission and two permanent secretaries at the Government House, Asaba.
Those sworn in as members of the civil service commission are Olumami Ovibo, Akpufuoma Lawrence Pemu and Mr. Michael Olise Oputa, while Mr. Innocent Victor Okubor and Mrs. Juliet Chukwulozie Aboloje were sworn in as permanent secretaries.
Gov. Oborevwori reminded the appointees that the civil service remains the backbone of government, stressing that policies, programmes and development initiatives can only succeed through a professional, disciplined and motivated workforce.
He said members of the civil service commission must continue to ensure that merit guides appointments and promotions, while professionalism, equity and transparency remain the guiding principles in managing the affairs of the service.

According to him, the reappointment of the three commissioners followed the successful completion of their previous tenure and their confirmation by the Delta State House of Assembly, describing the process as a testament to their performance and the confidence reposed in them by his administration.
The governor noted that the appointment of the permanent secretaries was strictly on the basis of competence and merit, adding that the decision was part of a deliberate strategy to strengthen leadership capacity within the state civil service.
“Hard work, dedication and integrity never go unnoticed. When people demonstrate commitment to duty, there is always a reward,” Gov. Oborevwori said, commending Mr. Okubor for his professionalism and capacity, and Mrs. Aboloje for her discipline, strict adherence to standards and zero tolerance for compromise.
He charged the new permanent secretaries to see their elevation as a call to higher service, urging them to lead by example, work as effective team players and demonstrate honesty, diligence and impartiality in the discharge of their duties.
Gov. Oborevwori also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare and productivity of civil servants, citing regular payment of salaries, timely promotions, construction of residential quarters for permanent secretaries, capacity-building programmes and continuous improvement of the work environment.
Responding on behalf of the appointees, Pemu thanked God and the governor for the opportunity to serve, assuring that the confidence reposed in them would not be taken for granted.
