Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has restated his administration’s commitment to the development of sports as a vehicle for national unity and youth empowerment.
The governor made this pledge in Jalingo, while receiving the symbolic Torch of Unity from officials of the National Sports Commission (NSC).
The event is part of the nationwide tour ahead of the upcoming National Sports Festival, slated for next month in Ogun State.
Gov. Kefas commended the National Sports Commission for its efforts in promoting national cohesion through sports.
He assured that Taraba State would be fully represented at the festival and expressed confidence in the ability of the state’s athletes to perform impressively.
“We are prepared to present an even stronger contingent this year. Taraba remains dedicated to using sports as a platform for uniting the nation and developing our youth,” Gov. Kefas declared, referencing the state’s remarkable performance in the last edition of the festival held in Asaba, Delta State.

He described the National Sports Festival as a key avenue for fostering peace, discovering talent, and strengthening the bonds of unity across the country.
Also speaking, the State Director of Sports, George Shitta, expressed optimism about Taraba’s prospects at the event.
He praised the dedication of the state’s athletes and reaffirmed the state government’s unwavering support for their success.
Leader of the Torch of Unity delegation, Mbora Ikana, representing the Federal Ministry of Sports, emphasised the symbolic importance of the torch, describing it as a beacon of peace and unity.
He urged all states to leverage the festival to deepen youth participation and promote national integration.
