In a strategic move to bolster confidence of Rivers people ahead of the local government election slated for October 5, 2024, Rivers State Governor,Sir Siminalayi Fubara on Monday paid an unscheduled visit to the State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) along Aba Road in the state capital where he declared that the local government election would hold and conducted as the most peaceful and credible election in the State.

Governor Fubara said he had already received briefing from the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, (RSIEC) on Court order mandating the agency to conduct the elections in the State, with the full support of security agencies, assuring that the State electoral empire would be given the necessary supports to conduct the elections successfully.

“Our election will hold on October 5. I am aware that RSIEC told me they already have an order mandating them to conduct the election on 5th and the security agencies should support them.”

“So, I think with that order the election will hold. I might not be a lawyer, but there is something they call first in hand and since they have the first in hand we will give them all the necessary support for that election to be conducted and it will be one of the best elections ever conducted in Rivers State, free and fair in this State.”.

“I went for an inspection, but I have been informed of some people planning to come here, so I decided to come. I hope everything is going on well. That is the most important thing I want to hear. If we make a mistake today, it is going to live with us forever.

Addressing the Chairman of RSIEC, the Governor said, “Chairman nobody has the right to interrupt the process, this is Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, it belongs to Rivers State and I am the Governor, so if there is anything let me know, I will come here personally.

“What is important to me is that Rivers State has to be alive, it doesn’t belong to anybody. I don’t care who nominated you, but do the right thing.”

Earlier the Governor had visited Rumuolumeni where he inspected progress of work on the Trans-Kalabari Link Road flagged off earlier in the year and expressed dissatisfaction over the pace of work done by the contractors on the road. He urged them to expedite action on the project to meet the delivery targets.

“We are in Rumuolumeni which is the starting point of the Trans-Kalabari road project. From here if you remember when we came to flag-off this road, it is a project that will connect the Bakana people to the city. ”

“So, we just came for inspection to see the progress of the job. I can say I am not too impressed but considering the terrain it is not a normal strong land where you just clean the earth and lay asphalt, I need more speed because it is a very important project to me. As a matter of fact I see it as one of my legacy projects. So it is important that I achieve it before we complete our tenure.”
