The much anticipated resumption of duty on Thursday by Governor Siminalayi Fubara after President Bola Tinubu lifted the six months emergency rule in Rivers State on Wednesday did not happen after all.
It is also doubtful if the governor has returned to the state since his arrival from overseas where he relocated briefly while the emergency rule lasted.
Thousands of women, youths and admirers of the governor had thronged major streets of Port Harcourt on Thursday in anticipation of the governor’s return.
The mammoth crowd caused heavy gridlock as they marched along the streets chanting songs.
On the other hand, the state lawmakers who were suspended along with the governor promptly resumed plenary on Thursday.
The highlight of the plenary was a resolution to probe the finances of the state under the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-ete Ibas.
The lawmakers also requested the governor to send the list of commissioner nominees for screening.
Meanwhile, Rivers Women, under the aegis of Rivers Women Unite for Sim, have applauded Tinubu, Gov. Fubara, and the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, alongside other leaders and stakeholders, for their roles in ending the political impasse and restoring democracy in Rivers State.
