Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has officially signed the 2025 appropriation bill, amounting to ₦305.811 billion, into law. The signing ceremony was held at the Government House in Damaturu.
The 2025 budget, dubbed the “Budget of Economic Consolidation and Poverty Reduction,” aims to fast-track the completion of ongoing projects, introduce new initiatives, and fulfill the administration’s campaign promises.
Governor Buni pledged that every naira would be judiciously spent, emphasizing investments in key sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, wealth creation, and empowerment to catalyze economic development.
During the event, Governor Buni lauded the Yobe State House of Assembly for its swift and diligent passage of the appropriation bill. He specifically commended Speaker Hon. Chiroma Buba Mashio and other lawmakers for their commitment to the state’s progress, saying, “You have shown a strong commitment to serving our people, prioritizing the state’s interests above personal comfort.”

In a move to promote entrepreneurship and self-reliance, the governor also launched a ₦50 million cash start-up grant initiative in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). This program provides ₦100,000 each to 500 beneficiaries trained in the production of household essentials. Beneficiaries also received start-up kits to help them establish sustainable businesses.
“The participants are now equipped with skills to promote local entrepreneurship. Each beneficiary will receive a cash grant and tools to launch their businesses, fostering sustainable income generation,” Buni explained. He congratulated the beneficiaries, urging them to maximize the opportunity and inspire others with their success stories.
Governor Buni expressed gratitude to Yobe’s development partners, particularly the UNDP, for their steadfast support and collaboration. He also called on the public and the business community to support the initiative by purchasing locally manufactured products, thereby boosting the state’s economy.
The dual launch of the 2025 budget and the empowerment initiative signals Governor Buni’s commitment to addressing poverty and fostering sustainable economic growth in Yobe State. With a focus on delivering impactful governance, the administration is setting the stage for a brighter future for its citizens.
