Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, of Gombe state, has stepped up his administration’s infrastructure drive with the commissioning of a newly constructed mechanic village along Bajoga Road and an extensive inspection tour of ongoing projects across the Gombe State capital.

The purpose-built facility, strategically located between the Ibrahim Dankwambo Mega Motor Park and the state office of the Road Transport Employers Association, is designed to provide automobile technicians with a structured and more efficient working environment. The initiative is expected to improve service delivery, enhance urban planning, and boost economic productivity within the transport sector.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, governor Yahaya commended automobile technicians for their contribution to the state’s economy, describing the project as a deliberate effort to recognize skilled workers and improve their working conditions. He assured beneficiaries that government remains committed to expanding the facility in line with future demand.

The event attracted a large gathering of mechanics and supporters, who applauded the administration’s intervention in what many described as a long-overdue development for the sector.

Following the commissioning, the governor embarked on an inspection tour of key infrastructure sites within the metropolis, beginning with the Three Arms Zone, which houses the state secretariat, House of Assembly, and High Court complexes.

He expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work, but urged contractors to maintain strict adherence to specifications, warning that no compromise on standards would be tolerated. He further assured that funding would not hinder project delivery, noting that adequate provisions had been made.

At the same location, the governor inspected the extensive road network and the ongoing 76.5-meter underpass being handled by Triacta Nigeria Limited. The Project Manager, Engr. Imran Amin Khan, described the tunnel as the most ambitious undertaken by the company in Nigeria, underscoring the scale of infrastructure transformation underway in the state.

He also disclosed that about N77 billion has been committed to road projects covering the Shehu Abubakar District, the underpass corridor, the Yemi Osinbajo Southern Bypass, and the Three Arms Zone network, reflecting the administration’s broad infrastructure renewal agenda.

Governor Yahaya also visited a major gully erosion control site, where he conducted an on-the-spot assessment of intervention works aimed at addressing long-standing environmental threats that had endangered lives and property in affected communities. He expressed satisfaction with the progress and urged contractors to sustain the momentum.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works, Danladi Adamu, briefed the governor on the status of all ongoing projects, assuring that implementation timelines remain on track.

In recognition of the administration’s support for their sector, the National Association of Automobile Technicians commended governor Yahaya during the mechanic village inauguration, describing the facility as a landmark intervention that will significantly improve productivity, safety, and professional standards among technicians.

The association also presented an award of recognition to the governor for what it described as sustained commitment to the welfare and development of automobile technicians in the state.
