The Grand Patron of the Isoko Development Union (IDU), High Chief Iduh Amadhe, has described the late Major General Paul Ufuoma Omu (rtd) as an exceptional Nigerian statesman whose legacy of service, patriotism, and visionary leadership remains unmatched.
Reacting to the passing of the former military governor of the old Cross River State, who died earlier this week at the age of 85, Chief Iduh said General Omu’s contributions to the development of Isoko land and Nigeria at large are enduring testaments to a life well lived.
According to the IDU chieftain, his working relationship with the late General Omu on various developmental committees left an indelible mark on his own leadership journey. He noted that they both collaborated on several initiatives, including the establishment of the Oleh campus of Delta State University (DELSU) and peace restoration efforts in the Isoko region.
“I had the privilege of serving under General Omu’s leadership in various capacities,” Chief Iduh recalled. “He was instrumental in shaping the direction of Isoko’s development and provided the kind of mentorship that is rare in today’s society. When I succeeded him as President General of the IDU in 2015, I inherited a legacy of discipline, courage, and unshakable commitment to the common good.”

Chief Iduh emphasized that General Omu’s legacy goes beyond military and political service. He noted that the late General was pivotal in connecting Isoko land to the national power grid and placing the region firmly on Nigeria’s developmental map during his time in the Armed Forces Provisional Ruling Council.
“General Omu was not just a military officer or political figure, he was a nation builder. His influence stretched across generations, and his sacrifices laid the foundation for many of the advancements we now enjoy in Isoko and Delta State,” Chief Iduh said.
Offering prayers for the peaceful repose of the “Othuke of Isoko land,” Chief Iduh urged the Omu family and the entire Isoko nation to take solace in the impactful life the General led. He encouraged the younger generation to draw inspiration from Omu’s legacy of service, integrity, and uncommon leadership.
“Though his loss is deeply painful, it is also a moment to celebrate a true icon — a man who gave everything for his people and country. His memory will live on, not only in our hearts but in the many lives he touched and the structures he helped build,” Chief Iduh concluded.
