The students of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State, had on Monday trooped out in their numbers to protest against the alleged trickery and harassment by presumed thugs and cultists at the second-entrance gate of the institution.
It was gathered that the protesting students who gathered and barricaded the road that lead to the second gate of the university, alleged that the thugs harass students who live off-campus at the SouthGate Area,
The students added that the harassment is carried out to intimidate the fresh students, adding that the rascals most times chase the students into the school premises without being stopped by the security agents.

However, they called on the Ondo State Government to look into the action as soon as possible.
Reacting, the Head of Media and Protocols Unit of the institution, Mr. Adebanjo Adegbenro, said it was not a protest but a sensitisation march embarked upon by the students to express their grievances over the bullying by some persons living around to the SouthGate.
Adebanjo noted that the rascals also robbed some students and said the university is in talks with the community to fashion out a way to safeguard the lives and properties of its students.
