A wave of anger and concern has spread across Delta State following the reported shooting of another young man identified as Aboy Odili in Asaba, an incident that has reignited debates over alleged police brutality in Nigeria.

A viral video circulating online shows a young man, said to be Aboy Odili, slumped beside a motorcycle in a pool of blood after reportedly being shot.

In the footage, distressed bystanders are seen gathering around him before attempting to rush him to safety using a tricycle.

The victim has been identified as Aboy Odili, a young civilian. The circumstances surrounding the alleged shooting remain unclear, and authorities have yet to release an official and detailed statement on the incident at the time of reporting.

The incident reportedly occurred in Asaba, the capital of Delta State, where eyewitnesses say through their online platforms that the shooting caused panic and drew a large crowd shortly after it happened.

The shooting news began on May 5 and went viral May 7, 2026, coming just days after another controversial killing in the state.

The incident has fueled public anger because it comes shortly after the reported killing of Mene Ogidi, a 28-year-old man in Effurun on April 26, 2026, an event that had already sparked widespread condemnation and calls for accountability.

According to eyewitness accounts and viral footage, the young man was seen injured immediately after the shooting. Bystanders attempted to rescue him as emotions ran high.

The incident has added to growing fears of escalating tensions between civilians and security operatives in the state.

The latest development has intensified public criticism of alleged repeated cases of excessive use of force.

Human rights advocates and members of the public are calling for transparent investigations and stronger accountability mechanisms within the police force.

Authorities had earlier responded to the Effurun incident by announcing disciplinary measures against an officer allegedly involved in that case, including arrest and recommendations for dismissal and prosecution.

As investigations into the Asaba shooting are expected to continue, residents and observers say trust in law enforcement is increasingly under strain, with renewed calls for urgent reforms to prevent further escalation of violence.
