The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, announced that the federal government will soon commence repairs on the Bridges on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway that are showing signs of wear and tear.
She highlighted the Kara, Arepo, and Magboro bridges along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway as areas needing urgent attention.
Kesha made these statements to reporters after an accident involving an 18-seater commercial bus at Arepo Bus Stop, where several passengers were seriously injured.
The accident was linked to a problem with one of the bridges’ expansion joints, which are parts that help the bridge adapt to changes in temperature and pressure.
Kesha expressed her worries about the deteriorating condition of these joints, particularly on the three bridges mentioned.
“Some of them are starting to fail, and the government is working on a solution,” she said.
The initial repairs are meant to be temporary, while a more comprehensive plan for full renovation is developed.

Kesha also pointed out that vandalism is a major factor contributing to the rapid decline of some infrastructure.
She urged Nigerians to take better care of public property, emphasizing that damaging these assets does not help anyone.
“Let’s consider these facilities as our own,” she said, appealing for a collective sense of responsibility.
She encouraged citizens to report any acts of vandalism to the authorities, stressing that those who damage public property should be held accountable to deter others.
Kesha reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring safer roads and called for public support in protecting national resources.
