The Federal Government has launched the Digital Training Academy (DTA), a government-backed skills development programme that will provide 32,000 Nigerians with free training in high-demand digital and professional skills.
The initiative, implemented under the National Skilling Project, is designed to address the country’s skills gap, improve employability and equip Nigerians with competencies needed to compete in the rapidly changing digital economy.

Through the Digital Training Academy, beneficiaries will receive free learning licences to access courses delivered through global learning platforms, including Coursera and Pluralsight.
The programme covers more than 10 skill areas, including Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, cybersecurity, cloud computing, product management, IT automation, fintech, parallel computing, quantum computing, natural language processing (NLP) and agentic AI.
According to the programme, Nigerians can participate regardless of their backgrounds or whether they have access to personal learning devices.
To widen access, training centres have been established across the country with internet connectivity and learning devices, allowing beneficiaries without personal gadgets to participate in the programme.
The Digital Training Academy said the initiative is expected to enrol 32,000 learners and provide certificates to successful participants across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
How to Apply for Digital Training Academy
The programme provides a structured registration and assessment process for prospective learners.
Applicants are required to create an account using their National Identification Number (NIN) and phone number before completing their profiles with information about their backgrounds, interests and career goals.
They are then expected to undergo a pre-assessment to determine their existing skill levels before being placed on appropriate learning paths.
After receiving their assessment results, successful participants can begin their selected training programmes and access curated learning materials.

Participants can also pursue training in artificial intelligence, machine learning and deep learning, with skills applicable across different sectors.
The academy has introduced training in emerging fields such as agentic AI and quantum computing, alongside established areas including fintech, software product management and natural language processing.
Several participants have described the training as practical and useful for their personal and professional development.
Some beneficiaries said the programme had helped them acquire new digital skills, improve their confidence and gain knowledge in areas including cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, database management and software development.
The Federal Government’s Digital Training Academy is expected to contribute to efforts to prepare more Nigerians for employment and entrepreneurial opportunities as demand for digital skills continues to grow.
With 32,000 training opportunities available, the programme gives participants access to globally recognised learning resources while supporting the government’s broader objective of expanding digital skills development across Nigeria.
