The federal government, through the Federal Ministry of Education, announced on Monday, November 17, 2025, that it has officially opened the application portal for the Student Venture Capital Grant (S-VCG).
This initiative is to support student-led startups across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
The scheme, known as the Sciences, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medical Sciences Student Venture Capital Grant (S-VCG) or the STEMM Up Grant, will provide up to ₦50 million in funding per selected student-led project.
The ministry added that the grant targets full-time undergraduates in their 300-level or higher, studying in STEMM disciplines.
Beneficiaries will gain not just financial backing, but also mentorship, incubation, and business development support.
The launch was made public during the inauguration of the research and innovation commercialization committee in Abuja, an event that also brought together vice-chancellors, rectors, student leaders, and development partners.
Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, described the S-VCG as a “launchpad for bold, young innovators” who can drive Nigeria’s technological and industrial transformation.
He reaffirmed that the program is part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which places strong emphasis on youth empowerment, education, and economic innovation.
The initiative will be executed in collaboration with the Bank of Industry (BOI), ensuring financial accountability and sustainability.
Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, said the program reflects a strategic commitment to building Nigeria’s “knowledge economy” from the ground up.
