The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that a naval officer, identified as Lt. Ahmed Yerima, was attacked by policemen at the NNPC Junction along the Kubwa Expressway.

A statement issued on Monday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, described the reports—shared by Instagram blogger, Mazitundeednut, as “false, malicious, and grossly misleading.”

The command said the incident occurred on Saturday, November 16, 2025, at about 6:15 p.m., when a police patrol team on routine stop-and-search duty intercepted an ash-coloured Toyota Camry with fully tinted windows and a concealed number plate.

In line with standard procedure, officers approached the vehicle and requested the driver to identify himself and explain the concealment.

However, the occupant allegedly refused to wind down, declined to identify himself, and instead made several phone calls while ignoring the officers.

Minutes later, three naval personnel arrived at the scene and identified the occupant as their colleague.

They reportedly took pictures and videos before leaving with him. The police said the vehicle was allowed to proceed once the naval officers confirmed his identity.

The command expressed shock that the routine security check was later “maliciously translated into claims of an assassination attempt,” describing the narrative as an attempt to stoke public fear.

FCT Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, urged residents to always cooperate with police officers during stop-and-search operations and warned against spreading unverified stories capable of generating panic.

He encouraged members of the public to report suspicious activities using any of the command’s emergency lines: 08032003913, 08068587311, and the Complaint Response Unit at 08107314192.

The police reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order in the FCT, assuring residents of continued professionalism in all operations.
