England’s assistant coach, Arjan Veurink, has decided to dump his role with the team to become the head coach of the Netherlands women’s team after this summer’s European Championship.
The 38-year-old has been working alongside his fellow Dutch coach, Sarina Wiegman, since 2017.
Together, they led the Netherlands to win the European Championship. He joined her again in 2021 when she became the head coach for England.
With their leadership, the Lionesses won the Euros in 2022 and made it to the World Cup final the next year.
England is set to play against the Netherlands during the group stages of this summer’s Euros in Switzerland on Wednesday, July 9.
“This is not just a big challenge and an exciting new journey; it also feels like the right move for my career,” said Veurink, who will succeed Andries Jonker and has signed a contract that lasts until the 2029 Euros.

“I have always been open about my desire to lead the Dutch national team. With over eight years of top-level experience as Sarina Wiegman’s assistant, first in the Netherlands and now in England, I feel ready to take on this role myself.
“It’s even more special that this chance is happening in the Netherlands. I will do my best to finish my time in England on a high note.”
An FA spokesperson mentioned, “Arjan is still a highly valued and respected part of Sarina’s team and is fully focused on the Lionesses’ current UEFA Women’s Nations League campaign and this summer’s tournament.
“We have a lot more to accomplish together before we say our goodbyes.”
