The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed a viral social media claim alleging that it is secretly recruiting new personnel, describing the information as false and misleading.
In a statement shared via its official X account on Monday, the anti-graft agency urged Nigerians to ignore the rumour and verify recruitment-related information only through its official communication channels.
The commission accompanied the clarification with a graphic boldly marked “FAKE NEWS” and “THIS IS FALSE NEWS. BEWARE!”, directly refuting a widely circulated message claiming the EFCC had quietly commenced recruitment and that successful applicants would begin training next month.
The false post, which encouraged users to “disturb your godfather” because the agency was allegedly recruiting in secret, has gained traction across social media platforms.

Reacting, the EFCC stressed that it does not conduct recruitment exercises secretly or through third parties. It reiterated that all employment opportunities are publicly advertised through its official platforms.
The commission also warned Nigerians, particularly job seekers, to be cautious of fraudsters who exploit fake recruitment announcements to extort money from unsuspecting members of the public.
The clarification comes amid recurring scams in which criminals impersonate the EFCC and circulate fraudulent job offers online.
The agency urged the public to verify any information concerning its activities through its official channels before taking any action.
