A viral video appearing to show Nigerian rapper Eedris Abdulkareem confronting Seyi Tinubu has resurfaced on social media, but fact-checks have established that the footage was digitally manipulated by combining Abdulkareem’s audio from an April 2026 performance with unrelated video of President Bola Tinubu’s son.
The edited clip, which circulated widely on X from October 2, 2026, gives the impression that Abdulkareem was speaking directly to Seyi Tinubu in a face-to-face encounter. However, the original footage shows Seyi Tinubu attending a separate event, while Abdulkareem’s remarks were delivered at the Mega Rave: A Night with the Legends event in Benin City, Edo State, on April 3, 2026.

Viral Eedris Abdulkareem–Seyi Tinubu Video Is Edited
The video circulating online shows Seyi Tinubu standing in a hall while the voice of Eedris Abdulkareem appears to address him directly.
In the audio, Abdulkareem rhetorically challenges Seyi over his earlier praise of his father, President Bola Tinubu, saying Nigerians—not Seyi—should determine whether the president deserves such an assessment.
The combination of the audio and footage has led some social media users to interpret the video as a recent face-to-face confrontation.
Fact-checkers, however, found that the footage and audio came from different occasions. Africa Check and FactCheckHub both concluded that the clip was digitally manipulated.
When Did Eedris Abdulkareem Make the Remarks?
The original remarks were delivered by Abdulkareem during his performance at Mega Rave: A Night with the Legends at Mega Hub in Benin City on April 3, 2026.
During the performance, the rapper paused to criticise President Tinubu’s administration and referred to Seyi Tinubu’s earlier public description of his father as Nigeria’s greatest president.
Abdulkareem questioned that description and directed Seyi to communicate his concerns about hardship and insecurity to his father. Contemporary reports also documented Abdulkareem’s criticism of the government’s handling of a deadly attack in Plateau State.
Seyi Tinubu Was Not Present at the Performance
The major point of clarification is that Seyi Tinubu was not at the venue when Abdulkareem made the remarks.
FactCheckHub reported that a review of the original video showed Abdulkareem addressing an audience at the Edo State event rather than speaking directly to Seyi.
The Seyi Tinubu footage used in the viral version came from a separate occasion. Africa Check traced the footage to an earlier video showing Seyi Tinubu listening to a performance by Nigerian musician Konga.

How the Edited Video Created the False Impression
The viral version combines two separate pieces of material: footage showing Seyi Tinubu at another event, and audio taken from Abdulkareem’s April 2026 performance. The combination makes the rapper’s comments appear to be directed at Seyi in the same location.
This is why the video has been interpreted by some social media users as a fresh confrontation, despite the original recordings coming from different occasions.
Abdulkareem and Seyi Tinubu Have Previous History
The resurfaced clip also connects to an earlier public exchange between Abdulkareem and Seyi Tinubu.
In March 2025, Seyi Tinubu publicly praised his father as the greatest president in Nigeria’s history. Abdulkareem subsequently released “Tell Your Papa,” a politically charged song urging Seyi to communicate Nigerians’ concerns about economic hardship and insecurity to the president.
Abdulkareem later explained on Channels Television that the song was a response to Seyi’s statement rather than a personal attack on him. He said the song was intended to call attention to issues including electricity, security, jobs and the economic environment.
NBC Classified ‘Tell Your Papa’ as Not To Be Broadcast
In April 2025, the National Broadcasting Commission directed Nigerian radio and television stations not to broadcast “Tell Your Papa.” The NBC classified the song as Not To Be Broadcast (NTBB) under Section 3.1.8 of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code, citing its objectionable nature. The decision generated debate over the limits of broadcast regulation and artistic expression.
The rapper has a long history of using music and public performances to comment on Nigerian politics. His 2004 song “Nigeria Jaga Jaga” became one of his most prominent political works and drew controversy during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Edo Venue Controversy Followed April Performance
The April performance also became linked to a separate controversy after the venue where Abdulkareem performed was sealed by the Edo State Government. Reports at the time connected the action to the event, although the government cited security-related considerations.
The venue was subsequently reopened, and Abdulkareem later appeared alongside Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo during a tour of government projects.
Why the Eedris Abdulkareem Video Went Viral Again
The resurfacing of the video illustrates how manipulated social media content can change the context of an old statement. Although Abdulkareem’s words in the audio are authentic, placing them over footage of Seyi Tinubu creates a new visual narrative that did not occur in reality.
The distinction is important because the viral presentation suggests a direct confrontation, while the original recordings show two separate events.
As the video continues to circulate, the verified fact is that Eedris Abdulkareem made the remarks, but he did not make them face-to-face with Seyi Tinubu as the edited viral clip suggests.
